Applications Specialist, SIIL, Germany

This position is for Science Information International Ltd. (SIIL) in Europe, representing CAS.  A subsidiary of the American Chemical Society, Science Information International (SIIL) markets all CAS products and services in Europe. 

This position will be based in Germany.

Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science
  • 3 years experience within any of the following: Patent law or the patenting process, chemical information retrieval, library science, sequence searching/genetics
  • Advanced or expert knowledge of CAS databases
  • English and working knowledge of German.  Some Slavic language capability desirable.
  • Knowledge of MS Office is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in direct customer contact work preferred
  • STN or other command-line searching experience strongly preferred

Duties

The incumbent is required to utilize a superior mastery of the interfaces and files offered by CAS/STN to develop, write, and present customized technical STN-based solutions to support customer needs.  Emphasis will be on supporting our largest customers, customers in regions where no direct STN agents are present, and supporting our STN agents.  The incumbent will serve as a consultant to CAS staff in such areas as files and/or interfaces, and integrate an understanding of the needs of CAS customers with the goals and missions of CAS. 

Moderate travel will be required.
