Manager of Publisher Relations

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a Bachelors degree with a minimum 7+ years of related experience
  • MBA with experience in negotiations of agreements and contracts strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well internally and externally with all levels of an organization
  • Project management and facilitation experience
  • Previous work with government agencies, publishers, or outside constituencies helpful but not required

Duties

This position focuses on optimizing CAS leadership in database building by forming and maintaining strong working relationships with providers of CAS database content.  The incumbent is required to stay abreast of advances in electronic publishing in the scientific industry. Reporting to the Vice President, Editorial Operations, the position has impact on Editorial vision and strategy related to CAS content, workflow, and processes.

The candidate will:

  • Develop strong working relationships with suppliers - both with journal publishers and patent offices.  This responsibility requires up to 20% travel.
  • Negotiate and acquire rights for electronic full-text content
  • Improve utilization of electronic data and electronic workflow
  • Organize, sponsor, and participate in publisher events and meetings
  • Identify and evaluate CAS database development opportunities
  • Manage approved initiatives and budgets
