How to... Analyze Substance Answer Sets
Web Version of SciFinder
Analyze is one of the many SciFinder tools that allow you to explore, evaluate, and review your substance answer sets. Analyzing helps you get different views of your answer set based on commercial availability, elements, substance roles, and reaction availability.
|

|
When substances are displayed in your main SciFinder window, an analysis of your answer set appears in the right sidebar.
Analyze by Substance Roles is the default, and the first 10 analysis bars are displayed. Each bar represents a subset of the answer set.
For answer sets with more than 1,000 answers, a sample analysis is initially performed. If you wish to conduct a full analysis, click Full Analysis. |

|
(Optional) To change the analysis category, select another option from the drop-down menu and then click Apply. |

| Select this option... |
To categorize reactions on the basis of... |
| Commercial Availability |
Whether the substances can be obtained from commercial sources |
| Elements |
The elements present in the substances in the answer set |
| Reaction Availability |
Whether the substances are referenced in reactions |
| Substance Role |
The role, use, or type of study with which the substances are associated |
|

|
In a Full Analysis, the number to the right is the number of answers in that subset. To view all of the analysis bars, click Show More. |
|

|
To filter your answer set to just one subset, click on an analysis bar.
A filtered answer set displays in the main SciFinder window. The answer set is unchanged. All answers that do not meet the specified analysis criteria are removed from the display only.
In the Analysis sidebar, a second shading color indicates the answers associated with the analysis, as compared to the preliminary analysis. |
