How to... Explore by Substructure
Web Version of SciFinder
SciFinder substructure searching capabilities give you unparalleled substructure access to world's largest and most current chemical substance database.
Additional tools, for example, the ability to include variable groups and R-groups in your structure, let you further broaden or narrow your structure query. By default, substructure searches retrieve exact results, plus substances with additional substitution and/or ring fusion.
 |
In the Structure Drawing window, use tools down the left-hand side and across the bottom to draw your structure.
The substructure-specific tools highlighted below let you:
- Draw variables and/or R-groups
- Block atoms from additional substitution
- Block rings from additional fusion
Once you can finished drawing, select Substructure search at the right-hand side and click OK. |

- It may be helpful to set your browser set to full screen when using the Structure Drawing window.
- Mouse over the tool buttons to see names or descriptions for the tools.
- Once you select a tool, information also displays above the drawing area.
- For details about drawing structures and using each of the tools, see the SciFinder Help files.
