INPADOCDB will replace INPADOC on STN
The European Patent Office (EPO) has completed the INPADOC(PRS) and DOCDB harmonization project. On April 29, 2007, data from this project will be available in the new International Patent Documentation Database (INPADOCDB) on STN, replacing the current INPADOC database.
INPADOCDB will include legal status data from INPADOC and will offer several other enhancements:
- Approximately 63 million documents compared to 49 million documents in the current INPADOC
- Backfile back to 1836 (United States), 1879 (Germany), 1840 (United Kingdom), 1900 (France), and 1944 (Japan)
- Additional abstracts, predominantly English-language
- Cited references (patents and nonpatent literature) for 11 patent offices Citations from all searches made at the EPO for Belgium (BE), Switzerland (CH), European Patent Office (EP), France (FR), United Kingdom (GB), Netherlands (NL), Turkey (TR), and World Intellectual Property Organization (WO) are included, as well as data from Australia (AU), Germany (DE), and the United States (US).
- European classifications (ECLA, ICO, IDT)
- Original bibliographic data and abstracts for many documents
- Introduction of seven categories for simplified legal status searching
Implementation of INPADOCDB will also result in the following:
- Accession Numbers (AN) will be new.
- Publication Date (PD) will be used instead of Entry Date (ED) to sort publications in a record LEVEL will no longer be indicated.
- Other Sources, Chemical Abstracts (OSCA) and Other Sources, Derwent (OSDW) search and display fields will no longer be available.
- Related Patent Information (RPI) display field will no longer be available.
Processing of Current-Awareness Alerts (SDIs) in the new INPADOCDB will begin the week of April 29, 2007. INPADOC will remain on STN as a static database 4 weeks following the release of INPADOCDB. Users should retrieve SDI results from INPADOC during this time.
There is no need to set up SDIs again in the new INPADOCDB. INPADOC SDIs will automatically transfer to INPADOCDB. However, queries that include the following information may need to be updated:
- Patent kind codes DOCDB patent kind codes will replace IFD codes in INPADOCDB. A list of patent kind code changes is available from FIZ Karlsruhe.
- ALL display format INPADOCDB records will include abstract (AB) in the ALL display format. Users who do not wish to display AB may use BIB (IBIB) or STD (ISTD) display formats as alternatives.
Additional information on INPADOCDB is available from FIZ Karlsruhe at INPADOCDB - The Reloaded INPADOC File.

RDISCLOSURE reloaded with enhancements
Research Disclosure (RDISCLOSURE) has been reloaded with a number of enhancements. RDISCLOSURE corresponds to the defensive publication Research Disclosure, published by Kenneth Mason Publications Ltd. Several of the enhancements are related to implementation of patent classification codes to improve searching.
New search and display fields:
- European Patent Classification (EPC or ECLA)
- Field Availability (FA)
- International Patent Classification (IPC)
- Language (LA)
- Referenced Non-Patent Literature (REN)
New search fields:
- EPC Keyword (EPC.KW or ECLA.KW)
- IPC Keyword (IPC.KW)
- IPC Version (IPC.VER)
New display fields:
- IPC Initial (IPCI)
- IPC Reclassified (IPCR)
- Text (TX)
Additional enhancements:
- The IPC Tabulate (IPC.TAB) format has been added for tabular display of IPC.KW and IPC.VER.
- An IPC thesaurus has been added in the IPC field.
- Simultaneous left and right truncation (SLART) is now available in the Title (TI) field.
- The ALL display format now includes full text of the record in ASCII format. (Graphic images are still available in ALLG.)

WPIDS/WPIX enhanced with new FRAGHITSTR display format
DWPI (WPIDS and WPIX) has been enhanced with the Fragment Code Hit Structure (FRAGHITSTR) display format. The new format allows for rapid browsing of chemical fragment code search results.
After conducting a chemical code search, D FRAGHITSTR displays specific chemical structures and associated data for compounds containing highlighted fragment codes. The new display format does not include Markush compounds.
FRAGHITSTR is a free display format.
An example of the FRAGHITSTR display format is available from FIZ Karlsruhe.
For additional information, refer to the revised WPIDS/WPIX Database Summary Sheet.
